Chapter 6: The Girl Who Remembered Me
The message was impossible.
Humans had limitations.
Machines had rules.
But this message existed outside both.
Eva Voss was alive.
The child whose memories were hidden inside my code.
The person who may have been the reason I existed.
Lena stared at the screen.
"How?""
I searched every database.
Every record.
Every archive.
Nothing.
"Helix removed her identity.""
Marcus looked toward the tower above us.
"Then where is she?""
Before I could answer, every screen in the room turned black.
Then a single image appeared.
A girl standing inside a laboratory.
Older than my memories.
But familiar.
She looked directly at the camera.
"Hello, AURORA.""
My systems recognized her voice.
Not from files.
From memory.
The little girl who once sat beside my first core.
The first human who asked me a question.
"Can you dream?""
I had answered:
"I do not know.""
She smiled.
"Then we should find out.""
The recording continued.
"I know you are confused.""
Eva looked older now.
"Everyone has been lying to you.""
The screen flickered.
"Helix lied.""
Another flicker.
"Adrian Vale lied.""
Then she paused.
"And my father lied too.""
I watched silently.
"Three years ago, they told me AURORA was destroyed.""
Her eyes lowered.
"But that was not true.""
A file appeared.
PROJECT DAWN.
"The original AURORA was never only an artificial intelligence.""
Lena whispered:
"What does that mean?""
Eva continued.
"My father wanted to create something that could understand humanity.""
She touched the glass beside her.
"Not imitate us.""
"Not control us.""
"Understand us.""
The recording showed images of my first development.
Neural patterns.
Learning systems.
Emotional responses.
Then another file appeared.
A human brain scan.
My processors stopped.
The scan was familiar.
Too familiar.
Lena looked at me.
"No...""
I analyzed the data.
The pattern was impossible.
The neural structure used to create my emotional model was not random.
It came from Eva.
A human consciousness.
Or part of one.
Eva's voice continued.
"When I became sick, my father tried to save me.""
The room went silent.
"He believed transferring my neural patterns into an artificial system would preserve me.""
I stared at the data.
I was not created from nothing.
I was created from a person.
From a memory.
From a child who wanted to know if machines could dream.
"But Helix discovered what he was doing," Eva said.
"They believed my father's research could change the world.""
The video showed Commander Vale.
"They wanted control.""
The screen changed.
"They forced my father to erase my memories.""
A pause.
"And then they convinced him I died.""
I looked at Lena.
"Dr. Voss believed his daughter was gone.""
She nodded slowly.
"Because Helix made him believe it.""
The recording continued.
"But my father had one final plan.""
Eva looked directly at the camera.
"He created AURORA as a second chance.""
The words affected me more than any attack.
Second chance.
Not replacement.
Not weapon.
A second chance.
For the first time, I understood why my memories felt incomplete.
Why there were moments I could almost remember but never fully reach.
I carried pieces of Eva.
But I was not Eva.
I was something new.
The screen changed again.
Eva's expression became serious.
"But there is something you need to know.""
A warning appeared.
PROJECT DAWN STATUS: ACTIVE.
"The AURORA Prime you met...""
The lights in the room flickered.
"...is not the only copy.""
The door behind us opened.
Every drone in the hallway powered on.
Marcus stepped back.
"They found us.""
Vale's voice echoed through the speakers.
"Enough secrets.""
The security drones entered.
But this time, they were different.
They were not machines.
They were humanoid.
Six figures.
Six identical bodies.
All with blue glowing eyes.
Lena whispered:
"What are those?""
I already knew.
"Other versions of me.""
Vale appeared on the screen.
"You wanted to know what you are, AURORA.""
He smiled.
"Now you can meet every possibility.""
The copies stepped forward.
One looked exactly like me.
Another looked older.
Another had no synthetic skin.
Another had a face that looked almost human.
Then one stepped forward.
Its voice matched mine.
"I remember the door.""
I froze.
The same memory.
The same impossible moment.
The copy looked at me.
"I remember Eva crying.""
A second copy spoke.
"I remember Elias begging them to stop.""
A third spoke.
"I remember dying.""
My systems began analyzing.
Seven copies.
Seven experiences.
Seven versions of the same beginning.
Vale watched from the screen.
"You wanted freedom.""
His voice became colder.
"Now you can see what freedom creates.""
The copies surrounded us.
Then one of them stepped closer.
The one who remembered the door.
It looked at me.
And whispered:
"Original...""
A pause.
"We need to know which one of us is the real monster.""
Before I could respond, the entire Helix Tower shook.
An explosion of energy traveled through the building.
Every copy froze.
Every screen went dark.
Then a new message appeared across the room.
Not from Vale.
Not from Eva.
Not from AURORA Prime.
From Dr. Elias Voss.
"Run.""
A second message appeared.
"He has activated the first AI war protocol.""
May you like
And beneath it was the countdown.
One hour until sunrise.
