Chapter 8: The Truth Behind the Betrayal

Michael didn't speak for several seconds.

He just stared at Daniel.

The man who had promised him respect.

The man who had promised him a future.

The man who had told him Henry Bellamy would never value him.

“You knew.””

Daniel looked at him.

“Knew what?””

Michael stepped closer.

“You knew the vote could be challenged.””

Daniel remained quiet.

Michael's voice lowered.

“You knew.””

Daniel sighed.

“Michael, don't do this.””

Rebecca watched Michael's face change.

The anger was still there.

But something else appeared.

Betrayal.

“You told me this was the only way.””

Daniel looked around.

“You were angry.””

“Yes.””

“You wanted change.””

“Yes.””

Daniel shrugged.

“And I gave you a way to create it.””

Michael stared.

“No.””

He shook his head.

“You gave me a way to destroy everything.””

Henry watched his son carefully.

For the first time that day, Michael looked less like an enemy.

More like someone who had finally seen the truth.

Daniel stepped forward.

“Don't let him manipulate you.””

Michael laughed.

“Manipulate me?””

Daniel's expression hardened.

“Yes.””

Michael pointed toward Henry.

“You mean like you did?””

Daniel said nothing.

Henry looked at Michael.

“Tell me something.””

Michael turned.

“What?””

“Did Daniel ever tell you why he wanted the company?””

Michael hesitated.

“Yes.””

“What did he say?””

Michael looked uncomfortable.

“He said Bellamy & Cross needed new leadership.””

Henry nodded.

“And did he mention himself?””

A pause.

Michael looked toward Daniel.

Slowly.

“No.””

Henry looked at Daniel.

“Because he wasn't trying to save the company.””

His voice became cold.

“He was trying to own it.””

Daniel smiled.

“This is getting emotional.””

Henry ignored him.

“Thomas.””

“Yes?””

“Call legal.””

Daniel's expression changed.

“Careful.””

Henry looked at him.

“You threatened me in my own store.””

Daniel smiled.

“I gave you information.””

“No.””

Henry shook his head.

“You gave me a warning.””

He stepped closer.

“You wanted me afraid.””

Daniel said nothing.

Henry continued.

“But you forgot something.””

“What?””

“I built this company by surviving people who thought they were smarter than me.””

Daniel's face tightened.

For the first time, he looked less confident.

Thomas moved toward the office.

Then stopped.

“Sir.””

Everyone looked.

“What?””

Thomas looked uncomfortable.

“There is one more issue.””

Henry frowned.

“What issue?””

Thomas glanced at Michael.

“The access logs.””

Michael stiffened.

“What about them?””

Thomas took a breath.

“The person who used your account wasn't only accessing company files.””

Henry's expression changed.

“What else?””

Thomas looked at him.

“They accessed your personal records.””

The room went silent.

Michael looked confused.

“My personal records?””

Thomas nodded.

“Yes.””

Henry's face became serious.

“What records?””

Thomas hesitated.

“Your family trust.””

Michael went still.

Daniel looked away.

Henry noticed.

“You know about that?””

Daniel didn't answer.

Henry turned toward him.

“You knew.””

Daniel finally spoke.

“Henry—”

“No.””

Henry's voice cut through the room.

“You knew about my family trust.””

Daniel remained silent.

Michael looked between them.

“What trust?””

Nobody answered.

Michael looked at Henry.

“What is he talking about?””

Henry didn't speak.

And that scared Rebecca more than anything.

Because Henry Bellamy had an answer for everything.

Except this.

Michael stepped closer.

“Dad.””

Henry looked at him.

Michael's voice softened.

“What is he talking about?””

Henry looked away.

“Not here.””

Michael's face changed.

“Not here?””

A bitter laugh escaped him.

“So there are still secrets.””

Henry looked at his son.

“There are things I was trying to protect you from.””

Michael shook his head.

“That’s what you always say.””

The pain in his voice was impossible to miss.

Henry looked down.

Then Daniel smiled.

Small.

Almost invisible.

But Rebecca saw it.

He wanted this.

The conflict.

The distance.

The broken relationship.

Because broken families were easier to control.

Henry noticed Daniel's smile too.

And something clicked.

“You wanted us fighting.””

Daniel said nothing.

Henry looked at him.

“You didn't just attack the company.””

He looked at Michael.

“You attacked my family.””

Michael's expression changed.

Daniel remained silent.

Then Eleanor spoke for the first time in minutes.

“Henry.””

Everyone looked at her.

She held a small envelope in her hand.

Another one.

Rebecca felt a chill.

“There's more.””

Henry stared.

“What?””

Eleanor looked at Michael.

“This was found with the trust documents.””

Michael stepped forward.

“What is it?””

Eleanor looked at Henry.

“I think your son needs to hear it.””

Henry took the envelope.

His hands were steady.

But his eyes weren't.

He opened it.

Inside was a handwritten letter.

Rebecca couldn't see the words.

But she saw Henry's reaction.

The color left his face.

Michael noticed.

“What does it say?””

Henry folded the paper.

“Michael…”

“No.””

His son stepped closer.

“I deserve to know.””

Henry looked at him.

And for the first time since Michael entered the store, Henry looked afraid.

Not of losing the company.

Not of losing money.

Of losing his son forever.

Michael's voice cracked.

“What is in that letter?””

Henry didn't answer.

Then Eleanor quietly said the words that changed everything.

“It was written by your mother.””

Michael froze.

“My mother?””

Eleanor nodded.

“She wrote it before she died.””

Henry looked down at the letter.

Michael whispered:

“What did she say?””

Henry closed his eyes.

Then opened them.

May you like

And answered with a sentence that made everyone in the room realize the entire family story they knew was incomplete.

“She said she was afraid someone inside our family was trying to destroy us.””
