Chapter 2: The House Across The Street

The walk across the street was only thirty seconds.

But for Daniel, it felt like watching his entire world disappear.

I carried Ethan in my arms.

My mother walked beside me slowly, still trying to understand what was happening.

Behind us, Daniel followed.

His voice grew louder with every step.

“Stop this right now.””

I kept walking.

“Are you hearing me?””

I pressed my hand against the large bronze door in front of us.

The scanner lit up.

My mother stopped.

Daniel stopped.

Patricia, who had followed us outside, suddenly went quiet.

Because she knew that door.

Everyone in the neighborhood knew that door.

The house had been empty for years.

A massive luxury mansion sitting behind tall iron gates.

The kind of place people drove by just to admire.

Five bedrooms.

A private garden.

A marble entrance.

A house people whispered about.

Daniel stared at me.

“What are you doing?””

I didn’t answer.

The scanner recognized my fingerprint.

The lock clicked.

The heavy bronze doors opened.

My mother covered her mouth.

“Sweetheart…”

I gently guided her inside.

Daniel looked around in disbelief.

“You can’t just walk into someone’s house.””

I turned toward him.

“Yes, I can.””

His face changed.

For the first time, I saw uncertainty.

Not anger.

Not arrogance.

Fear.

Patricia stepped inside behind him.

“This is impossible.””

I looked at her.

“No. What was impossible was you believing you could treat my mother like a servant forever.””

Daniel shook his head.

“You’re losing your mind.””

I placed Ethan gently on the sofa in the entry room.

Then I walked toward the kitchen and opened a cabinet.

Inside were neatly organized documents and keys.

Daniel watched every movement.

“What is this?””

I turned back.

“The truth.””

Six years ago, when I married Daniel, I never told his family everything about my past.

Not because I was ashamed.

Because I wanted a normal life.

I wanted someone to love me without knowing what I had inherited.

I wanted to know if people cared about me or my name.

So I kept my identity quiet.

I let Daniel believe I was just a woman with an ordinary job.

I let Patricia believe I was lucky to have her son.

I let them underestimate me.

But they never understood one thing.

This mansion was never a dream.

It was my reality.

The house belonged to me.

The company that owned the surrounding properties belonged to me.

The money Daniel thought he was managing through “our family accounts” came from assets I controlled.

And now, after six years of watching my mother be disrespected…

I was done pretending.

Daniel stepped closer.

“What are you saying?””

I looked him directly in the eyes.

“I’m saying you’ve been living a life you never earned.””

His expression hardened.

“You’re threatening me?””

“No.””

I picked up my phone.

“I’m informing you.””

Patricia crossed her arms.

“You wouldn’t dare.””

I pressed one button.

Then another.

Daniel’s phone rang.

He looked down.

His confident expression slowly disappeared.

“What did you do?””

I watched him realize the truth.

The cards he used every day.

The accounts he depended on.

The services paid for by my money.

Everything was changing.

He looked at me like he was seeing a stranger.

“You can’t just cut us off.””

I calmly replied:

“I can.””

The room became silent.

Then Daniel’s phone rang again.

This time, his face turned pale.

He answered.

“Hello?””

He listened.

His eyes moved toward me.

“Wait… what do you mean the account owner changed everything?””

I watched Patricia step closer.

“What happened?””

Daniel slowly lowered the phone.

And for the first time in six years, he looked afraid of me.

Because the person they thought they controlled…

was the person who had been carrying them the entire time.

Then Patricia whispered something that made my blood run cold.

“She knows, doesn’t she?””

I looked at her.

“Knows what?””

May you like

Patricia’s face went pale.

And I realized there was one secret even they had been hiding from me.
